Job Summary and Qualifications

  • Assess a patient’s condition and determine a course of treatment in collaboration with the ER medical and nursing staff.
  • Paramedic may initiate IO access, and peripheral and external Jugular IV access once competencies are completed. Also included in job duties requiring competencies: perform EKGs and various specimen collections but not limited to venipuncture, nasal and throat swabs, iStat specimens, and urine specimens.
  • Perform patient care as defined by scope of practice – duties may include but not limited to taking vital signs, assisting patients with bathing, eating, dressing, transfers and ambulation, repositioning patients in bed to prevent skin breakdown, change linens, record oral intake and measure urinary output, collect specimens for tests, supply and empty bed pans, interact with patients and family, and transport patients and equipment.
  • Monitor patients and report any variances from normal to the nurse Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records. Document care according to hospital policies and procedures and in a clear, concise and legible manner.
  • Report/document all incidents such as errors and patient incidents to hospital staff as defined in hospital policy and procedures.
  • Checking, inventorying, cleaning and Re-stocking supplies
  • Provides a variety of patient care services such as: Obtaining and labeling specimens, Applies splints, ortho appliances, ice bags, Assists patients in/out of beds, chairs or wheelchairs, Assists patients to ambulate, ensures patient hygiene, alters patient’s position as needed, sets up for suturing, applies dressing to burns, lacerations, and abrasions, immobilizes orthopedic injuries for the application of slings, splints, and dressings, assists with Post Mortem Care
  • Distributes trays and feeds patient as needed
  • Answers patients’ requests promptly and reports to charge nurse
  • Participates in patient data collection
  • Relieves Unit Coordinator
  • Gives accurate report of care provided and patients response, to nurse co-assigned to the patients
  • Assists patients between car and Emergency Department stretcher via wheelchair
  • Keeps patients/families informed of plan of care and changes in patients condition
  • Orders supplies as needed from Materials Management and Kitchen
  • Assists in orienting new personnel as requested

What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Emergency Medical Paramedic (EMP)
  • Vocational School Graduate
