Basic requirements:
Demonstrates ability in performing a limited number of specific shipfitting processes to perform the less difficult duties of the trade. Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints. Demonstrates ability/knowledge as a journeyman shipfitter with installing and fitting structural parts on submarines utilizing services of other trades. Rolls, bends, flanges, cuts, and shapes plates, beams, and other heavy metal structural shapes using various shop machinery. Demonstrates a working knowledge of equipment, structures, materials, etc. associated with submarine shipfitting operations. Possess the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment related to the shipfitter trade. Ability to set parts in proper position, aligns, and adjusts using optical squares, jacks, turnbuckles, shoving saddles, clips, wedges, and hammers. Demonstrates ability to clean, lubricate, and maintain the tools and equipment of the trade. Shapes metal pieces and assembles components to form required submarine parts. Possess knowledge of equipment, structures, materials, etc. associated with submarine shipfitting operations. Removes and repairs or replaces damaged parts of structures.
Starting salaries are commensurate with education and experience, plus full benefits. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Males born after December 31, 1959 are required to be registered with the Selective Service System. All positions are subject to satisfactory completion of a security investigation, successful completion of a pre-employment physical, and/or drug test.
