Responsibilities listed here are in addition to and modifications of those listed for a Field Metrologist I. Under limited-to-no technical supervision, performs the following moderate to moderate-difficult tasks:
Derive an understanding of key/critical alignment features of potentially unfamiliar mechanical systems.
Serve as the lead technician on small to medium sized metrology focused projects.
Produce clear and understandable inspection reports on medium complexity inspections/projects and be able to articulate results to a customer representative.
Create moderately complex inspection plans prior to deploying on a project.
Be an active participant in planning and mobilizing field metrology projects, including working with technical staff on providing estimates and methodology.
Be highly proficient with machine alignment theory and practice.
Provide post job feedback to improve processes.
Provide peer checks for other field metrologists.
RequirementsQualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education
High school diploma or GED/HSED, required
Documented on the job training or 2-year technical degree, preferred
Coordinate Measurement Society (CMSC) Certification, preferred
Manufacturer provided, product specific training (Spatial Analyzer Intro/Advanced, Polyworks, Leica, Faro, etc), preferred
Experience & SkillsThree to six years of progressively responsible related experience. Specifically, this position requires:
Extensive experience (3-6 years) operating various portable metrology instruments
Proficient understanding of metrology software usage including advanced functions and analysis
Proficient knowledge and experience with GD&T
Proficient knowledge, understanding and ability to read and interpret assembly drawings
Proficient ability to read and interpret blueprints & mechanical drawings
Proficient knowledge or experience with mechanical/workpiece fixturing
Proficient ability with intermediate and advanced computer functions
Proficient ability to diagnose and solve intermediate software / hardware issues (ie JRE (tracker spec) files, connectivity / ipv4 settings, firewall settings, installing software/firmware updates, etc)
Proficient ability with mechanical measurement equipment
Proficient ability with machine alignments
Strong Mechanical aptitude
Experience in various field environments, preferred
Experience machining, preferred
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work scopes, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, digital correspondence, technical manuals and specifications and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as basic math, fractions, decimals, angles, percentages and ratios.Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:
Occasionally talk or hear
Frequently sit, use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls
Frequently stand and walk
Frequently climb ladders and stairs
Frequently stoop, kneel, bend or crouch
Frequently lift and/or move physical products (up to 100 lbs)
Occasionally use portable hand power tools (angle grinder, drill, power hammer, etc.)
Respirator fit testing and use may be required
Specific vision abilities: include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. These include: forklift traffic, overhead cranes, machining, welding, fumes, airborne particles, moving of mechanical parts and moderate noise. The work is performed indoors in a shop environment or a customer site both indoors and outdoors.
