Description At the Ransburg Scout Reservation, a Welding Instructor plays a crucial role in teaching and guiding scouts in the skills and safety protocols associated with welding. Below is a detailed description of the responsibilities and qualifications for this position: Responsibilities:
Instruction: Teach welding techniques including MIG, TIG, and arc welding. Demonstrate proper use of welding equipment and tools. Instruct scouts on the fundamentals of metallurgy and material properties.
Safety: Ensure that all safety protocols are strictly followed. Conduct regular safety briefings and inspections. Maintain a clean and organized work area, free of hazards.
Mentorship: Provide individual guidance to scouts to help them improve their welding skills. Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment. Evaluate scouts' progress and provide constructive feedback.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain welding equipment in good working order. Perform regular checks and maintenance of tools and machines. Report any issues or needs for replacement equipment to camp management.
Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive welding curriculum that meets the needs of scouts at various skill levels. Plan and execute engaging and educational welding projects.
Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of scouts' attendance and progress. Submit reports on class activities and equipment usage as required. Qualifications:
Experience and Skills: Proficiency in various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, arc). Prior experience in welding instruction or a related field is preferred. Strong understanding of welding safety practices.
Certifications: Relevant welding certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Welder) are highly desirable. First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and teaching skills. Ability to engage and motivate young learners. Patience and a positive attitude towards teaching.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training or certification in welding.
Scout-Friendly: Understanding of the Boy Scouts of America values and mission. Ability to work within the framework of a scout camp environment.
