Purpose and Scope
The CNC Machinist is responsible for performing critical functions in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment, supporting a growing company that plays a vital role in national defense. The primary responsibilities include: utilization of blueprints and models, proving and improvement of CNC programs and documentation, set up and operation of state of the art CNC mills, lathes and mill/turn machine tools. In this position, attention to detail is crucial. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.

Responsibilities
Objectives
• PERFORMANCE: Continuously reduce prove out times while improving quality and delivery by completing all work on time or early; create solutions (setups, programs) that “work the first time”. Quickly troubleshoot and resolve issues that are negatively impacting machining productivity.
• TECHNOLOGY: Increase manufacturing efficiency and throughput by maximizing the capabilities of all machine tools and programming software systems. Incrementally improve spindle utilization.
• ORGANIZATION: Improve operational workflow and throughput through ProShop ERP utilization, 5S and other relevant techniques implemented on the shop floor to eliminate waste

What you will get to do
• Utilize work orders and blueprints to determine the best machining process with consideration of required tolerances and GD&T, for complex machined components and assemblies
• Utilize Mastercam and NCSimul to backplot/review programs for 3, 4 and 5 axis mill and mill-turn machines
• Utilize on machine part probing system (Renishaw) to ensure component conformance and allow for lightly attended or unattended processing
• Provide input and information for the creation of robust, repeatable processes for machining Heat Resistant Super Alloys (HRSA) and other exotic materials
• Perform bench work including drilling, tapping, filing, deburring and finishing
• Perform in process inspection using tool such as micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, optical comparator
• Support and comply with Cogitic’s Quality Management System
• Utilize and gain proficiency in ProShop ERP software for daily tasks and projects

Results
• Machine utilization goals are met
• Scrap elimination goals are met
• Required deliverables are complete prior to scheduled production dates 100% of the time
• Assist in creation of processes that “work the first time”, eliminate operator intervention and run “lights out” when possible
• On machine probing is integrated into programs and utilized to its potential
• On machine tool setting is integrated into programs and utilized to its potential
• All operational data (time estimates and actuals, work orders, instructions, and process development) is entered, stored, maintained and updated in ERP
• Effective collaboration and communication are demonstrated through daily interactions and execution of tasks
• Gain expert level proficiency in ProShop ERP software

Organizational Relationships
The Set up Machinist reports to the Manufacturing Manager and has support responsibilities to Manufacturing Planning, Mission Assurance, inspection and VO Operations.


Qualifications and Experience
• Associates degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Programming or Drafting – required
• Working knowledge and experience with Solidworks 3D modeling software – required
• Familiarity with ERP, Microsoft Office and other technical software systems - required
• Minimum 5-10 years of working in a machining environment - required
• Ability to pass a background check and hold a security clearance - required
• US citizen- required
