Apply TodayJob Summary and QualificationsThe MRI Technologist assists the Radiologists or independently performs ordered imaging procedures specific to MRI and related techniques, producing diagnostic images for interpretation. MRI Technologists must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. MRI Technologists must maintain a high degree of accuracy in patient positioning and imaging technique. They must maintain knowledge of MRI safety and radiation protection. MRI Technologists provide age specific patient care based on assessment data, current knowledge/skills, department policies/procedures and physician orders. The MRI Technologist serves the following age groups on a routine basis: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric. What you will do in this role: Performs physician ordered diagnostic and interventional imaging MRI procedures.Confirms, clarifies and verifies the physician written or verbal order prior to implementing the imaging procedure.Performs and confirms proper patient identification prior to performing the patient procedure.Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available.Appropriately documents findings relevant to the imaging procedures in Technologist Notes.Prepares the patient for imaging procedures by obtaining a complete MRI screen, provides education and instructions to obtain desired results, gaining cooperation, and minimizing the patient’s anxiety.Appropriately operates imaging equipment, and/or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Appropriately immobilizes patients as required for the examination.Identifies, prepares and/or administers appropriate contrast media as determined by the procedure ordered. Starts and maintains intravenous (IV) access per orders when applicable to the imaging procedure.Determines appropriate imaging technique/exposure factors.Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.Applies principles of MRI safety, ALARA and radiation protection to minimize exposure and maximize safety to the patient, self, and others.Implements appropriate infection control and standard precautions.Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of imaging procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.Maintains confidentiality of the patient’s PHI in accordance with the HIPPA.Verifies informed consent is obtained for interventional procedures.Assists Radiologist with specialized interventional imaging procedures.Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.Initiates basic life support, or other emergency actions when necessary.Provides practical instruction and supervision for students and/or other health care professionals.Participates in the department and Hospital’s quality control, quality assessment and improvement plans.Ensures procedures are correctly billed in a timely manner.Maintains supplies for the assigned area(s), ensuring proper use, inventory levels are appropriate and supplies are current.Knowledgeable of computer hardware/software programs used to perform job duties.What qualifications you will need:Recent graduate of an MRI training program or a minimum of three years experience as a Registered Radiologic TechnologistIf new hire with previous MRI experience, recent graduate of MRI program, or internal transfer, must successfully obtain MRI registry at least 2 weeks prior to 1st annual evaluation as a MRI Technologist at TRHBasic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start dateMagnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) must be obtained within 1 year of employment start dateRegistered Radiographer (ARRT)Associate Degree HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball has provided quality healthcare to Tomball, Magnolia and Northwest Houston communities since 1948.
