The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Controller in managing the Company’s financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and enhancing internal controls. This role includes preparing financial reports, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supervising the accounting staff. The Assistant Controller will also play a key role in audit preparation and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Presides over the accounting team’s daily functions which includes the general ledger.
Collaborates with various departments to support financial efforts and objectives.
Oversees the documentation and dissemination of accounting policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements with ASC842.
Implements and maintains internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensures accurate financial reporting.
Supervises, trains, and develops the accounting team(s), fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Aids in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
Supports the annual audit process, including preparation of audit schedules and acts as the liaison with internal and external auditors.
Facilitates account reconciliations and investigations as needed.
Partners and supports the Controller with tax compliance and coordinates with external tax advisors.
Manages the month-end and year-end close processes.
Participates in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
Analyzes complex financial data and provides recommendation for improvement.
Provides support to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate cross functionally and build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrates strong negotiation and leadership skills with the ability to effectively guide and motivate team members.
Thorough understanding of accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting standards.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Possess exceptional time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing workloads, and meeting deadlines.
Continuous improvement mindset with a passion for automating/standardizing processes.
Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in financial reporting.
Committed to high ethical standards and integrity in managing confidential and financial information.
Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.) and accounting software such as SAP or other ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance is highly preferred
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.
Public Accounting experience is highly desired.
Prior work experience in industries such as Manufacturing, Food Manufacturing, or Retail is preferred.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment with telephones, personal computers, and printers.
The noise level of the environment is usually moderate.
Sedentary position with seldom to occasional lifting of less than 50 pounds.
May require standing less than or equal to 1/3 of the day.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
