Our team in the Space & Defense is looking for a Machinist 4 (Apprentice) to join them. You will report to the Value Stream Resource Manager, and will have an onsite work schedule in Blacksburg, VA. This position could be 1st or 2nd shift. Job Summary/Responsibilities:
Solve process, equipment, and tooling problems.
Complete machining operations with planning/prints.
Inspect dimensions per print.
Demonstrate skill in tooling design and improvements to existing tooling.
Verify work completed meets requirements of blueprints, standards, and work instructions.
Complete paperwork accurately and legibly.
Operate lathe, mill, shear, vice, tapping machine (manual and power), and understand different styles and types of taps and dies (metric and standard).
Operate various types of power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt sanders, and disc sanders, sand, and bead blasters.
Operate and understand power band saw, cut off saw, proper selection of speeds, feeds, tooth size, blade welding, guide setting, and blade replacement.
Cleaning assembly and various other tasks as required and ability to verify work completed meets requirements of blueprints, standards, and work instructions.
Knowledge of documentation requirements related to manufacturing and quality of hardware.
Participate in Continuous Improvement Process.
Assist in training /cross-training of others.
Work with minimal supervision.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Minimum one-year machine shop vocational school or equivalent degree.
Completion of Apprentice program, plus 2 years of directly related Machinist experience.
Proficient in GD&T.
Knowledge of documentation requirements related to manufacturing and quality of hardware.
To be able to lift at least 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

Salary Range:Starting at $18.00 (plus shift differential) based on education, experience, and skill set.
