Facility: Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Position: CLINICAL EDUCATOR - Perianesthesia Staff Development and Education Program Coordinator TEMP TO PERM OPPORTUNITY SHIFT: 5x8, 0 (no weekends) JOB PURPOSE Supports the standards, mission, goals, and objectives of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Surgical Services. Responsible for the development, coordination and evaluation of the following programs: Surgical Services Perianesthesia orientation, staff development, and patient/family education. Contributes to quality patient care through the direction and evaluation of the quality of the educational programs delivered as well as by following Cottage Health System’s and department specific policies and procedures. Assumes a leadership role, is a resource for others on current educational theory, professional development, and evidence based practice. Directs and assists assigned personnel with their responsibilities and builds teamwork through leadership, guidance and direction toward a common goal. Demonstrates motivation, creativity, and flexibility; and serves as resource person and role model to other staff. Collaborates with administration and department directors/managers on the development of programs to meet those needs. Assures that staff educational programs promote and support professional development and those patient/family educational programs promote and support hospital and community health education activities. Leads and teaches others, and through positive communication skills, actively supports a collaborative environment in the promotion of health, wellness and education for positive patient outcomes. LEVEL OF EDUCATION Minimum: BSN Preferred: Master's Degree CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Minimum: Current CA RN license Preferred: ASPAN TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS Minimum: Clinical Perianesthesia Post Anesthesia Care Registered Nurse Expert (PACU CERTIFIED). Demonstrated teaching and program development skills. Knowledge of supervisory practices, techniques, and methods for staff development. Must have background in Preop and PACU Must have Critical care skills (example: ICU, SICU, NICU, PICU) YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum: Three (3) years clinical/teaching/leadership experience for perianesthesia. Preferred: Three years critical care and/or post anesthesia care in level one trauma center KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES All knowledge, skills, and abilities listed indicate the minimum level deemed necessary to perform this job proficiently. PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING Ability to exercise good judgment and tact in providing strong leadership, guidance, and assistance. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Acts as a role model for effective interpersonal skills including conflict management, negotiation and feedback. COMMUNICATION SKILLS The employee communicates effectively. Strong communication skills that reflect a positive attitude and sense of commitment to our patients, fellow employees, and community. OTHER Demonstrates proficiency in management accountabilities. Demonstrates initiative and self-improvement in job knowledge and skills.
