ECU Health Beaufort Hospital is located in Washington and serves as a campus ECU Health Medical Center, our Level I Trauma Center in Greenville. The 142-bed full-service hospital offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services including medical, surgical, intensive care, emergency, pediatrics and women's services. In addition there is a lab, diagnostic imaging services, physical and respiratory therapy. The facility also features the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, offering leading-edge chemotherapy and radiation therapy, among other cancer services.

Position Summary

The Speech/Language Pathologist administers diagnostic and treatment services to patients referred to the Department of Speech/Language Pathology and maintains records pertinent to such services. He/She shall be responsible for evaluating any communication impairment that interferes with an individuals premorbid level of function and providing appropriate treatment services. The Speech/Language Pathologist shall also be responsible for providing diagnostic and treatment services involving any swallowing impairment/dysfunction. The Speech/Language Pathologist is directly accountable to the manager for the quality of patient care delivered. He/She modifies and delivers care that is specific to the age, growth, and development of patients according to Departmental scope of services.

Possesses and demonstrates understanding of theoretical framework selected in the choices of treatment interventions chosen and can justify the use of them to patients, family members, team members and students.
Possesses and demonstrates knowledge of a variety of resources and treatment interventions which can be utilized to address specific needs of the patient based upon individual goals, strengths, values and roles.
Possesses and demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate evaluation findings, treatment plan and patient progress to appropriate team members, patient and family.
Possesses and demonstrates the skills necessary in order to meet productivity expectations.
Recognizes, reports and documents acute physiological changes in patients condition.
Schedules inpatients and outpatients for diagnostic and treatment services to ensure dedicated time to meet individual patients needs.
Attends and participates in the patient care planning conferences and communicates pertinent information regarding services provided and recommendations for patient population.
Exemplifies flexibility in meeting departmental and professional needs.
Spontaneously demonstrates initiative to engage in intra-departmental activities that are supportive to the teamwork concept.
Demonstrates knowledge of standard precautions, transmission of infection and routinely and consistently utilize measures to reduce the spread of bacteria.

Maintains Speech/Language licensure.

Minimum Requirements

Must possess a minimum of a Master of Science, a Master of Arts or a Master of Education degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited university- or higher.
All course work for ASHO certification in Speech/Language Pathology must be completed.
A N.C. licensure or eligibility for it is required and certification of Clinical Competence in Speech/Language Pathology awarded by the American Speech/Language and Hearing Association or equivalent academic and clinical training.
Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, team members, patients, families and the public.
Special interest or experience in working as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Preferred Requirements

Special interest and experience in neurologically based speech and language disorders preferred.
