Position Purpose
As a key member of Sleep Number's internal Creative Team, the Copy Editor is responsible for the accuracy, consistency, and grammatical precision of all marketing materials. As a Copy Writer, you will partner with the writing team on creating and governing concise, persuasive, and legally appropriate copy that supports the Sleep Number® brand and its marketing initiatives. In this role, you will serve a reliable resource for all marketing messaging and influence other writers/editors around the consistency of the brand voice.
Primary Responsibilities
- Proofs, edits marketing communication pieces, including campaign, in-store, print, radio, web, mobile, social & new media; new product positioning, features and benefits
- Responsible for initial and final proofreading of all materials for accuracy, consistency, legal requirements and advertising standards
- Partners with the brand copy writers, process specialist, designers, legal department and the Creative Director to proofread, produce, and evolve the brand assets across all customer touch points
- Takes responsibility for project workflow, scheduling supplementary writing as necessary managing multiple simultaneous projects with internal and external partners
- Creates some marketing communications such as promotional emails
- Works alongside the legal and planning teams to ensure projects are approved and correct in a timely manner
- Serves as the go-to resource on advertising and legal policy accuracy for the Marketing team
- Develops and communicates a clear point-of-view on the corporate approach to all marketing materials
- Along with the Creative Process Specialist, helps lead and communicate issues and resolutions– meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Participates with writers, designers and project managers in strategic project planning
- Protects and maintains the brand voice as a subject matter expert.
- Stays up to date on the latest retail design and messaging trends and competitive analysis
- Exercises a high level of discretionary decision-making based on style guides, legal guidelines and marketing practices
- Ensures adherence to legal requirements and Sleep Number policies
Position Requirements
- 5+ years experience in strategic communications with excellent proofreading, writing and editorial skills with experience of editing and creating multichannel messaging (print, web, retail, etc.)
- Experience in copy editing and writing in a corporate or agency environment highly desired
- Exposure to corporate marketing environment & standards preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Writing, Journalism, English or related field

- Leadership qualities, coordinating and management/interpersonal skills
- Experience with multiple, fast-moving channels and how to communicate within them
- Understand brand positioning & message hierarchy
- Customer focused writing and attitude
- Good organization/project management
- Willingness to learn.
- Able to multitask and take direction from multiple sources
- Willing to work alone or as part of the creative team
- Able to work using accepted processes
- Must be able to work with Word & Excel
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, InCopy) and online proofing tools preferred but not essential
