Physician – Diagnostic Radiology U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Summary The VACIHS is seeking a full‑time Physician – Diagnostic Radiology. The incumbent is responsible for providing quality and veteran‑centered imaging services within this Medical Center. This position is remote. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification Residency programs approved by ACGME, AOA, or other residencies (non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs) PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs Proficiency in spoken and written English Reference: For more information on this qualification standard - please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/ Physical requirements: You will be asked to participate in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre‑employment process for this position Duties The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well‑being and live their lives to the fullest As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care you will operate in a model with three core elements striving to create a personalized health plan for each veteran This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the veteran’s community This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to honor America’s Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well‑being The Physician – Diagnostic Radiology supports the Veteran Integrated Service Network (VISN) mission, vision and values while operating in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies, facility and VISN policies, and standards of federal professional and accrediting agencies external to VHA including The Joint Commission (T JC) Duties include: Perform duties and responsibilities of a radiologist in the areas of general radiology – CT, MRI, ultrasound, DEXA, nuclear medicine and PET/CT as provided and privileged Perform ultrasound examinations of the internal organs – thyroid, scrotum – and vascular exams such as carotids Interpret nuclear medicine studies such as bone scan, HIDA, MUGA, thyroid, and cardiac as privileged Provide PET/CT interpretations Participate in and support performance improvement activities – including external review programs, internal peer review programs and accreditation requirements Provide accurate, concise, timely documentation of care in the electronic medical record (CPRS) on each patient care occurrence Interpretation and dictation of reports must be completed using the existing voice recognition system for dictation and in the required VAMC format Verification of reports must be completed within 24 hours for routine exams Ensure communication for direct patient care is accomplished among imaging staff and providers including critical results communication Participate in quality management activities such as image quality checks, peer review, Tumor Board and other activities as required May be asked from time to time to review imaging policy and procedures and recommend updates or changes to the Chief of Imaging for implementation and support the coordination of the services daily functioning as needed Participate in education of facility and imaging staff and students from affiliated programs Support and participate in continuous learning and self‑development Stay abreast of advances in imaging services VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package including a VHA Physician Total Rewards and an Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program Compensation and Benefits Base pay range: $300,000.00/yr – $400,000.00/yr Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases Paid time off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days paid CME absence) Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% contributions by VA Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care insurance Full, unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory; CME: possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification) Free liability protection with tail coverage provided by malpractice coverage Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; no significant restriction on moonlighting; no physician employment contract Education Debt Reduction Program eligibility: must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment;
