Summary These FLOAT Audiologist positions are located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service at the Viera VA Clinic. Responsibilities The audiologist conducts, plans, and coordinates all clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services associated with contemporary audiology practice, including Telehealth. Provides direct patient care involving audiology and balance evaluation and treatment services, including the selection and fitting of hearing aids and other amplification systems, aural rehabilitation, and counseling of hearing‑impaired veterans and their families. Identifies and evaluates individuals with hearing disorders in reception and perception of speech, language, and other acoustic signals across a full range of patient complexity. Administers the full range of tests, including vestibular nerve function testing and vestibular rehabilitation, and evaluates the type and degree of hearing loss for patients who may be unable to provide consistent and reliable responses. Plans, delivers, and monitors the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of patient‑centered treatment and rehabilitative services for patients with significant physical and psychological complicating conditions. Includes, but is not limited to, the selection and fitting of all types of hearing aids and associated technology. Programmings of digital hearing aids and associated technology. Issues hearing protection devices to prevent acoustic trauma for individuals working in noisy environments. Selects and fits assistive devices and assistive listening devices such as personal FM amplifiers and telephone amplifiers, radio and TV magnetic induction devices for special communication problems, and inspects, modifies, and repairs amplification devices and ear molds. Plans, conducts, and coordinates auditory (aural), tinnitus, and/or vestibular rehabilitation programs for patients. Designs patient‑centered treatment plans to assist patients and caregivers in maximizing and restoring physical and social functioning to the greatest extent possible. Designs, monitors, and conducts a comprehensive hearing conservation program for employees at risk for noise exposure. Serves as a consultant to other facility personnel involving the most difficult and complex cases and is recognized as a subject‑matter expert on hearing, tinnitus, and balance disorders. Supervises, evaluates, mentors, and precepts student trainees in audiology and maintains liaisons with affiliated colleges and universities; may also provide instructions to residents and interns seeking information in relation to audiology. Completes all documentation in accordance with facility policy. Performs the proper maintenance and calibration of the specialized electro‑acoustic instrumentation and possesses considerable knowledge of the technical aspects of both the clinical instruments and calibration instruments. Conducts compensation and pension examinations, including detailed past, family, social, military, and occupational history; performs comprehensive evaluation of the type and severity of hearing loss, tinnitus evaluation, and special auditory and vestibular tests. Work schedule: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri – 7:00 am to 5:30 pm; OR Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat – 7:00 am to 5:30 pm (exact schedule to be determined based on service needs).
