IT Director – Data Management

Permian Resources (NYSE: PR) is seeking an IT leader to shape the future of data at PR. Reporting to the VP & Chief Information Officer in Midland, TX, this role will lead the strategy, platforms, and relationships that unlock value from our enterprise data.The successful candidate will combine strong business acumen with deep technical expertise to deliver today’s data needs, including opportunities in AI and advanced language models.ResponsibilitiesBuild trusted relationships with Geology, Engineering, Drilling, Completions, Finance, Accounting, HR, and other teams to translate data into measurable business value.Educate stakeholders on how modern data platforms and AI capabilities can improve decision-making.Champion data as a business asset, aligning technology investments with operational outcomes.Lead, inspire, and manage a team of high-performing data engineers, developers, automation specialists, analysts, and data scientists.Technical Platform ManagementDrive implementation and optimization of our data platform stack, including Databricks, Dagster, dbt, Power BI, and Spotfire.Lead the development and maintenance of enterprise data warehouse, data lake, and data mart infrastructure.Ensure seamless data flows and integration across enterprise applications.Drive automation, real-time data availability, and platform optimization.Future-Focused InnovationExplore and implement emerging AI, machine learning, and language model technologies to enhance analytics, reporting, and knowledge management.Position PR’s data environment to support predictive insights, natural language interfaces, and advanced automation.Promote a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement in data-driven operations.Enterprise Data Governance & QualityEstablish and maintain enterprise data catalog and metadata management practices and lead data governance initiatives.Drive data quality improvements across the organization through platform excellence and automation.Promote data lineage and consistency standards across all enterprise data assets.Qualifications12+ years in data analytics, business intelligence, or related roles.10+ years in a leadership or management capacity.Deep familiarity with upstream oil & gas operations, data types, and industry-specific challenges.Proven track record of building and leading technical teams in complex enterprise environments.Expert-level understanding of lakehouse architecture, data warehousing concepts, and enterprise data modeling.Hands-on experience with Databricks, Dagster, dbt, Power BI, and Spotfire.Strong command of SQL, ETL/ELT processes, data pipeline automation, and data integration patterns.Proficiency in Python, R, or similar languages for data platform development and automation.Experience with cloud-based big data platforms and modern data stack technologies.Expertise in data governance, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality tools.Proven ability to lead through influence in matrix organizations without direct authority.Strong communication skills to translate technical concepts for business audiences.Track record of building data literacy and promoting best practices organization-wide.Permian Resources is an equal opportunity employer.
