Our Data Center Engineering Operations team maintain and operate our critical infrastructure systems so that they are prepared to stand up against any situation. Let’s work hard, have fun, and make history Key Job Responsibilities Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities‑related issues. Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems. Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facilities within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and work with the Facility Manager (FM) to set team culture. Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams. Assist in the build‑out of new facilities and projects to increase current facility efficiency. Work outside of normal business hours for routine maintenance as required, including responding to out‑of‑hours emergency calls. Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience. Coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability and efficiency with IT managers and other business leaders. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff. Establish building performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance. Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and other basic administrative tools to perform day‑to‑day tasks. Physical Requirements Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently. Participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds. Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder. Perform tasks such as walking, using hands and fingers, handling or feeling, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, climbing stairs, twisting, bending, working above shoulders, grasping, carrying, pushing and pulling objects into position. Work in an environment requiring provided ear protection. A Day in the Life This role acts as Amazon’s front line when it comes to hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. The CE maintains, operates, and troubleshoots mission‑critical data center facility equipment that supports servers that must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. Equipment includes standby diesel generators, related fuel systems, 3‑phase electrical systems such as switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries, CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps and motors. Additional support equipment includes fire/life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment. The CE directs, trains and supports technicians, implements site‑specific training, manages projects from conception to completion, and collaborates with engineering, automation, processing and finance teams at local and global levels. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You will collaborate with software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production. Experience with MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems. Experience with power management and power monitoring systems. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure experience. Knowledge of critical data center equipment. Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures. Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA. Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure. Compensation The base pay for this position ranges from $98,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Equity, sign‑on payments and other compensation may also be provided as part of a total compensation package. This position will remain posted until filled.
