UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital seeks a dynamic Unit Director for the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit (CTCU) and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). This role oversees all nursing and administrative operations for these specialized inpatient units, ensuring the highest standards of care for young patients.The Unit Director is accountable for the overall administrative planning and coordination of staffing, fiscal, and material resources. In collaboration with the Director of Pediatric Critical Care Services, the Unit Director will develop and implement processes to ensure quality patient care practices. This role also serves as a model for nursing practice and utilizes nursing and leadership theories to guide practice and clinical quality, promoting collaborative decision-making and shared governance.The Unit Director will represent nursing units on interdisciplinary committees, addressing patient satisfaction, quality improvement, workflow efficiencies, and clinical information systems. As a people leader, the Unit Director will mentor nurse leaders (Assistant Unit Directors) and approve leadership development plans. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on factors including work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the collective bargaining agreement.Salary: $262,044 – $278,059 (Annual Rate)For more about UCSF benefits and total compensation, visit: https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/compensation-and-benefits/index.htmlDepartment DescriptionThe UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) is an 18-bed unit serving critically ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (CTCU) is a 12-bed unit specializing in care for acutely ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects. Patients are admitted via the nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care provided at UCSF Medical Center or through direct referrals for specialized surgical care. Nurses and nursing leaders are integral to the interdisciplinary team, supporting families while maintaining vital functions for these fragile patients.Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in NursingMinimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a related area (pediatric, cardiac, transitional, OR intensive care)Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership (supervisory/management) in an inpatient nursing unitRegistered Nurse in the State of CaliforniaAmerican Heart Association CPR for Health Care ProvidersAmerican Heart Association PALSStrong hospital management experience with in-depth expertise in patient care services; knowledge of hospital/clinic operationsExcellent communications and interpersonal skills for collaborative decision-making across unitsStrong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills; ability to foster teamwork and achieve objectivesKnowledge of healthcare information technology and patient care workflowsUnderstanding of regulatory, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environmentsPreferred QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Nursing or relevant areaCCRNLeadership CertificationLicense/CertificationRegistered Nurse in CaliforniaAmerican Heart Association CPR for Health Care ProvidersAmerican Heart Association PALSAbout UCSFUCSF Health is committed to innovative patient care, advanced technology, and pioneering research.
