OverviewGreen Building Specialist (Technical Customer Service) at U.S. Green Building Council.What You’ll DoProvide expert guidance and problem-solving support for complex technical inquiries related to LEED rating systems and other sustainability topics, ensuring a positive experience for new and experienced users.Collaborate with the TCS team and other internal groups to address stakeholder needs, identify trending issues, and develop resolutions within organizational policies.Serve as the voice of the customer, contributing feedback on USGBC and GBCI initiatives.Act as a technical subject matter expert in one or more LEED rating systems or credit categories, contributing insights into the customer experience and supporting continuous improvement of USGBC, GBCI, and LEED guidance.Contribute to special projects such as user testing, writing articles, developing addenda and policy, and training staff.Maintain and grow the team’s library of rating system expertise, standard operating procedures, Help Center content, policy language, and best practices.Design and refine processes that help customers achieve their goals and advance USGBC’s mission, leveraging accumulated knowledge from around the world.Document, track, and manage the complete lifecycle of customer inquiries and resolutions.QualificationsExperience: Minimum 5 years in a client-facing role related to green building, sustainability, or education.Experience with LEED project applications or green building consulting.Experience working on cross-functional teams or contributing to process improvement projects.Experience with LEED O+M or LEED BD+C Homes, or other residential rating systems.Education: Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, architecture, engineering, or a related field.Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Salesforce or similar CRM systems; familiarity with LEED Online and Arc preferred.Skills: Strong written and verbal communication; customer-first mindset; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment; adaptability and openness to feedback.Certifications: Current USGBC or GBCI credential or commitment to earn one within the first year of employment.Languages: English; proficiency in Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic is beneficial.Compensation and BenefitsBase pay range: $70,000.00/yr - $90,000.00/yr. This range is provided by USGBC; actual pay based on skills and experience. Final compensation and benefits will be confirmed at the time of offer and may vary based on internal equity, experience, qualifications, and employment status. Salary negotiations will not extend beyond the top of the internal salary range.As part of total rewards, benefits include standard items such as 401(k) with employer matching, professional development reimbursement, healthcare coverage through Cigna with a premium-covered plan and HRA, paid time off, and renewal leave after seven years of service.LogisticsLocation: This position can be performed onsite in Washington, DC, remote, or hybrid.Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM in the candidate’s time zone; 40 hours per week with some flexibility for calls across time zones.Travel: Approximately 5% of work time for conferences, professional development, or team meetings.EEO StatementThe U.S. Green Building Council is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
