A belief that no matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, or who you love if you work hard in Texas, you can make it.About the roleThe Communications Director oversees the overall communications strategy for promoting Democratic priorities and the vision for the state. This is a leadership role that involves close collaboration with the Chair and Executive Director to establish strategic communication goals and enhance the profile of the Texas Democratic Party and its candidates.The Communications Director is expected to contribute to various office-wide projects, including large-scale fundraisers, elections, the Convention, and other party events. Additionally, the Communications Director will serve as the spokesperson for the Texas Democratic Party when appropriate and work closely with other departments to ensure all messaging and branding are clear, concise, and aligned with the party’s mission.TDP is a non-profit relying on the generosity of donations to support its work. This position's starting salary is $85,000. The position is hybrid with a three day in-office expectation at the Dallas location. Health, vision, and dental are provided by the Party.What you'll doDevelop and implement an overarching communications strategy and plans for the State Party.Manage the Communications team and supporting and mentor other staff in communications efforts.Ensure message continuity across all areas of communications programs across departments, particularly non-traditional media.Build and execute an aggressive statewide surrogate program and scaling our efforts within local media across the state.Act as an official spokesperson for the State Party and prepare the Chair and other principals for media opportunities.Oversee all content production whether talking points, speeches, scripts, press releases, social posts or op-eds, among other communication activities.Work with Democratic leaders, elected officials and legislative caucuses to leverage press opportunities and reinforce the Democratic Party’s narrative and priorities.Develop and deploy rapid responses to breaking news; andPerform other related duties as requested by the Executive Director.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field from an accredited university with a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience, with 1-2 years as a senior-level communications employee on a political campaign, in public relations, and/or issue advocacy.Previous experience with managing teams of 4 or more people.Experience working on a statewide coordinated campaign, including with national committees and frontline races.Familiarity with AP style writing.Excellent people, written and verbal communication skills.Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously under strict deadlines.Strong on-the-record expertise, as well as experience with campaign operations and political communications.Experience with booking and preparing principals for state and national TV shows and interviews.Adept at reviewing crafting plans from polling data.Responsive and positive team player who enjoys the versatility and constant new challenges.A strong commitment to Democratic values; andSpanish fluency is a plus.TDP is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
