Duties and Responsibilities Provide interpretation and transliteration services in American Sign Language (ASL), or other appropriate methods to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in a variety of educational and administrative settings. Facilitate communication between Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees and hearing faculty, staff, and peers in diverse settings such as meetings, instructional sessions, workshops, events, and other related activities. Analyze environmental factors for effective communication, including lighting, seating, visual aids, and technological tools; suggest adjustments to enhance accessibility. Interpret lectures, presentations, discussions, and activities, conveying information effectively into spoken English for Deaf faculty members courses. Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials, technical vocabulary, and subject content to ensure accurate interpretation. Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and other stakeholders; collaborate with faculty and administrators to address individual needs and enhance accessibility. Stay current with advancements in interpreting practices, technology, and relevant legislation through professional development and ongoing education. Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to individuals diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment. Perform related duties as assigned to support accessibility and communication needs. Minimum Qualifications Bilingual in ASL and English. Certified ASL Interpreter: NIC, NAD Level V, CSC, CI, CT, CI/CT Certified. Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and Deaf community as these factors relate to the need for equity?minded practices.
