About the Role We are looking for an Engineer II or Engineer III (SCADA system engineer) to design, program, and support Station Data Manager (SDMs) across our transmission and distribution substations. The role involves real‑time data acquisition, HMI development, communication protocol implementation, relay protection, and automation support. Responsibilities Provide engineering expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity. Contribute to team decision‑making, planning, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities. Create thorough technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to complex problems. Conduct engineering and related studies. Apply fundamental concepts, practices, procedures, and technical competencies. Develop positive working relationships and coordinate work activities efficiently. Support the company’s goals and represent the company positively. Basic Requirements – Engineer II Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (Master’s degree may be considered in lieu of the B.S.). At least 2 years of engineering experience. Basic Requirements – Engineer III Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (Master’s degree may be considered in lieu of the B.S.). At least 4 years of engineering experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering. Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam. Experience in the utility industry and basic understanding of protective relay settings. Familiarity with communication protocols, telecommunications, and regulatory requirements including NERC‑CIP. Experience with AutoCAD, SEL products, and HMI software. Additional Preferred Qualifications Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. Research and design evaluation, recommendation, and presentation skills. Effective written and oral communication skills. Project management fundamentals. Experience with department‑specific systems. Working Conditions Hybrid – work both remotely and onsite after onboarding. Remote employees must live within a reasonable commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility. Travel Requirements 15–25%.
