Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Fintech About The Job Hopper’s Hotel Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) team is responsible for integrating our proprietary fintech offerings with some of the largest travel companies in the world as well as our own direct to customer offerings. This role is both B2C and B2B2C. Within this vertical we construct systems and build fintech offerings to scale globally, manage how to evolve and innovate on current and new offerings, and translate that to customer value and business value to Hopper as a whole. What Would Your Day-to-day Look Like Iterate on features in an agile manner using Scala (no prior experience required) and technologies like GCP, OpenAPI, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and others. Decide how to best build core systems in the context of our microservices architecture. Ship your first code in days and iterate on features in an agile manner. Collaborate with a diverse group of people, giving and receiving feedback for growth. Execute on big opportunities, helping Hopper rise to the top of the travel industry. An Ideal Candidate Has The ability to bring leading industry techniques and technologies to the table. A strong understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability. Excelled in cross‑functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Frontend Engineers, and other highly skilled specialists. A passionate focus on quality, writing testable code that performs and scales. The ability to work with minimal guidance, be proactive and handle uncertainty, ambiguity, and the challenge of quickly evolving goals. Prior cloud experience. Working with Scala and its libraries. Prior travel or eCommerce experience. Experience and desire to contribute to front ends; a FS engineer is a plus, especially React web front ends.
