Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Technician II with at least 2 years of experience to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be supporting Project Managers with project tasks and field services and responsible for conducting fieldwork, collecting environmental samples in accordance with NCDEQ and USEPA protocols, and assisting with environmental site assessments and remediation projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental monitoring, including the collection of soil, surface water, sediment, groundwater, and waste material samples with high quality and minimal supervision.
  • Conduct environmental surveys pertaining to potential health and environmental hazards with high quality and minimal supervision.
  • Assist with emergency response activities if necessary.
  • Communicate with site supervisors and contacts to adapt monitoring plan and to schedule work activities.
  • Prepare company vehicle daily for field tasks with proper sampling and monitoring equipment and maintain a clean and organized vehicle.
  • Calibrate and maintain sampling and monitoring equipment in operational condition.
  • Complete detailed project field notes that document site conditions and observations, health and safety issues, field instrument calibration, subcontractor activities, and completion of assigned scope of work activities.
  • Assist with other fieldwork as needed, such as operating Trimble GPS during wetland delineations and conducting threatened & endangered species surveys.

Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in the environmental industry
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in environmental related fields of study, or equivalent years of related work experience.
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to respond to request or complaints made by clients as directed by Project Manager in a timely manner.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to make accurate and informed decisions with limited input from others.
  • Flexibility to travel and stay overnight for certain out-of-town work.
  • Ability to operate a computer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications

Working Conditions

The assignment requires outdoor work throughout the year in wooded settings for the collection of environmental samples, and to observe and document the work of subcontractors who perform soil boring/well installation, remediation equipment installation, or excavation work. Employees should be able and willing to work outside for extended periods in varying weather conditions. Position may require use of personal protective equipment and air monitoring equipment to minimize contaminant exposure. Due to the fieldwork's nature, the employee will be exposed to various environmental hazards.

Physical Requirements

To perform the job's essential functions, incumbents will be required to stand/walk for long periods of time outdoors and may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds. Employee should be able to bend and remove bolts from at grade surface cover of monitoring wells or water valve covers, etc. and remain in a bent or squatting position for 5 minutes to allow set up of sampling equipment, recordation of field measurements or collection of samples from subsurface structures (such as wells, vaults, pits, etc.).
