State Police Lab Manager 14 (D/Lieutenant 14) - SSB / FSD / Bridgeport Lab / Firearms and Toolmarks The Laboratory Manager’s primary responsibility is to ensure the technical compliance with unit policies of scientists, examiners, and technicians working within the Firearms and Toolmarks Unit. The Manager also ensures that scientists and examiners comply with departmental and division policies and training requirements. Serving as a liaison between the technical leader and the Laboratory Director, the Manager handles case management within the unit and may act as Laboratory Director when necessary. The role requires overseeing discipline‑specific training until competency is achieved and performing all duties in a bias‑free manner. Required Education and Experience Earning a bachelor’s degree in forensic science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related pure or applied science field. Two years of experience equivalent to a Forensic Scientist 12 or a State Police Specialist (Sergeant) or State Police Sergeant 12 in the State Police Forensic Science Division. Alternate Education and Experience (Firearm Specialty) Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major combined with two years of experience as a State Police Specialist (Sergeant) or State Police Sergeant 12 in the State Police Forensic Science Division. Additional Requirements and Information This position requires passing a pre‑employment screening, including a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
