Learn more at www.compasscpa.net. The Role: Tax Manager This role will start part-time or full-time depending on the candidate—but our goal is for it to grow into a full-time position. You will manage a hybrid workload of tax compliance, tax planning, and year-round advisory, supporting our TaxLITE, TaxCORE, TaxMAX, and LifePLAN service lines. Key Responsibilities Tax Compliance (Primary Responsibility) 🔹 Prepare and review federal & state tax returns for: Individuals & families S-corps, C-corps, LLCs/partnerships Trusts & estates Nonprofit/990 filings 🔹 Manage tax season workflow in Drake 🔹 Handle business compliance items (annual reports, BOIR, payroll/WC/EDD notices, estimated taxes, etc.) 🔹 Resolve IRS and state notices with clients 🔹 Maintain strong quality control and deadline management Tax Planning & Advisory 🔹 Onboard and lead engagements for tax planning clients 🔹 Design tailored strategies across all tiers (TaxLITE → TaxMAX) 🔹 Multi-entity structuring and optimization 🔹 Owner compensation, W-2 child labor, accountable plans, Augusta Rule 🔹 Capital gain mitigation and advanced planning support 🔹 Provide year-round tax advisory and scenario modeling 🔹 Collaborate with our CFO, CAS, and Real Estate Tax teams Internal Leadership 🔹 Support development of our planning and compliance systems 🔹 Maintain playbooks, tools, templates, and checklists 🔹 Help build the compliance calendar and improve internal processes 🔹 Contribute to team training and knowledge sharing Who You Are Ideal candidates have: ✅ 3–7+ years of tax compliance experience across multiple entity types ✅ Strong understanding of individual, business, trust/estate, and nonprofit returns ✅ Some tax planning or advisory experience (or strong interest in growing here) ✅ Comfortable managing clients proactively and communicating clearly ✅ Experience with Drake Tax Software & TaxDome strongly preferred ✅ Confident advising small business owners, real estate investors, and W-2 earners ✅ Curious, detail-oriented, and capable of working autonomously ✅ Excited about flexible work and revenue-aligned growth potential Our Service Framework You’ll work within and across all four planning tiers: 🟢 TaxLITE – For W-2 earners, beginners, and small business owners 🟠 TaxCORE – For growing entrepreneurs and multi-entity setups 🔴 TaxMAX – Advanced planning, high-earners, exits, and capital strategies 🌐 LifePLAN – Full-spectrum financial, tax, estate, and VFO support Why Join Compass CPA? ✨ 100% remote & flexible schedule ✨ Part-time or full-time with path to a leadership role ✨ Work with values-aligned, proactive clients ✨ Collaborate with a creative, supportive CPA team ✨ Opportunity to shape the tax department as we scale 📩 Apply Now Ready to lead, grow, and contribute across both tax compliance and planning?
