Full Job Description:


GENERAL PURPOSE: Operate the corrugated box making machines to efficiently and effectively meet the plant’s demand for corrugated boxes and the overall scheduling needs for the department.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Must have prior experience running a corrugated box machine

  • Operates the box making machines.
  • Assists in developing a weekly schedule for upcoming orders with the Planning Department.
  • Tracks all JIT (Inventory) sizes to ensure that there is an adequate replenishment of boxes as needed.
  • Inspects and verifies the quality of the boxes being produced through checklists and auditing so that there are formal processes in place that are documented for compliance.
  • Works with the Finishing Manager, Planning, and Purchasing to ensure that there is an adequate flow of raw material sheets to meet our demand.
  • Performs recommended preventative maintenance on the machines and track through formal documentation.
  • Follows all 5S policies for tool display shadow boards and all organization procedures 100% of the time.
  • Tracks production, waste, Cartons Per Crewed Hour, and other performance metrics to ensure that we are judging our performance through established goals. When goals are not met, a root cause and actions are established to eliminate or reduce the causes of inefficiencies.
  • Ensures all product is labeled, palletized and documented properly to meet the needs of Finishing and Quality for traceability of material.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.


Job Duties: Specific duties and responsibilities will depend on which machine you are focusing on. This will be discussed further during the interview phases and is decided by each individual’s skill level, knowledge, and experience.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing all activities associated with running machinery. This includes staging, setup, operation run, quality and clean-up.


Skills/Abilities:

  • Perform visual inspections of dyes and plates prior to install.
  • Troubleshoot production and quality issues and provide corrective action.
  • Ability to work either 1st, 2nd, or possibly 3rd shift
  • Oversee and perform basic preventative maintenance duties
  • Oversee and perform daily clean-up duties.
  • Ensure all staff on the machine are following and complying with health/safety rules and regulations.

  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Mathematics – Knowledge of industrial math including arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Ability to calculate measurement conversion. Ability to determine the relationship between tolerances and dimensions in an acceptable range.
  • Computer – Familiar with basic functions of database and operating systems. Can locate, open and save files.
  • CAD Drawing/Factory Ticket Spec and Drawing – Ability to read and interpret CAD drawing including dimensions, symbols, notes and views.
  • Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Installation –Installing tooling, knife segments and printing ink to meet specifications.
  • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of corrugated board to evaluate quality and performance.
  • Material and Operation Analysis – Determining quality of corrugated board and adjusting settings accordingly.
  • Time Management – Managing one’s own time and the time of others.


Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Experience with corrugated box industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience on the following machines strongly preferred; Flexo-Folder-Gluers, Rotary Die-Cutters, or Finishing Machines (tapers Gluers).


Knowledge:

  • Corrugated box types.
  • Converting production processes.
  • Quality control.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.


QUALIFICATIONS

Must have prior experience running a corrugated box machine

  • Must be able operate a computer and be able to do basic functions in Corrugated Software to document production, word processing for communication, and basic overall computer skills.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to read and write instructions and correspondence.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Must have strong mathematical skills.
  • Must be able to maintain good attendance.
  • Must have basic personal computer skills including e-mail and word processing.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
  • Must have the ability to meet and/or pass the minimum requirement on a mechanical test or have demonstrated mechanical aptitude through prior work experience.
  • Must pass ruler test.
