Summary:       

The Night Physician is responsible for admitting, as well as responding to the needs of, patients admitted to the hospital to ensure that patient care is delivered in an efficient and effective manner.  He/She prioritizes to identify opportunities for improving patient outcomes, contributes to timely hospital discharges, and facilitates communication with PCPs, specialists, hospital staff, patients and families.  He/She collaborates with the hospital interdisciplinary team to improve efficiency and facilitate progression through the continuum of care for patients. 

The Night Physician is expected to perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.

Principle Accountabilities:                                                                                                            

  • Prioritizes patients needs to ensure that patients with the most critical needs are cared for first.
  • Communicates with Physicians from outside facilities to ensure safe patient transfers/direct admissions.
  • Responds to patients with acute changes.
  • Works in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioners and other staff in coordinating care delivery in the most efficient manner.
  • Processes billing on all admissions and ensures proper documentation and assignment of ICD-10 codes.
  • Serves as an advocate for the patient and a liaison to the patient/patients family.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional practice and personal growth.  Attends and completes all specific competencies and annual organizational requirements.
  • Performs other work duties as assigned.                            

                                                                                                                                                                    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Current licensure as a Physician in the State of Missouri.

Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

Must be organized, customer focused and have the ability to develop positive relationships. 

Must be goal oriented and operate effectively in a self-directed manner.  Strong communication

and problem-solving skills are required.

3 - 5 years of recent clinical experience with utilization review experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

Employee is required to sit frequently and walk occasionally.  Employee must lift/carry a medium (21-50 lbs.)  load occasionally.  Employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, kneel, and lift.  Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead.  Employee may be required to do simple grasping and pushing/pulling. 

(Occasionally:  1-33%, Frequently:  34-66%, Continuously:  67-100%)

The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.
