This position provides legal support to all divisions of the Louisiana Department of Treasury. The Attorney drafts and reviews contracts, legislation, and policies, advises leadership on legal and administrative matters, and ensures compliance with state and federal laws. The role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact public finance projects, represent Treasury in legislative and regulatory settings, and contribute directly to the state’s financial integrity and operations.Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law is required.Job DutiesProvide legal counsel and guidance to Treasury divisions and executive leadershipDraft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documentsReview and assist with Requests for Proposals (RFPs), procurements, and solicitationsDraft, analyze, and interpret legislation affecting Treasury operationsEnsure departmental compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulationsDevelop, review, and update departmental policies and proceduresSupport public finance activities, including bond-related matters and financial services contractsRepresent the Department before legislative committees, boards, and external stakeholdersAdvise staff on public records, ethics, and administrative law requirementsCoordinate with other state agencies, legal counsel, and external partners as neededPosition-Specific DetailsCompensation:This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $27.08/hour.This position is eligible for retention pay of up to $1.00 per hour for each hour worked.Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amount listed is the maximum salary a person can make while in this title and NOT the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire. The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.Career ProgressionAs part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Attorney 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).Appointment TypeThis vacancy may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty or Classified Temporary Appointment.If filled as a probational appointment, this position requires the selected applicant to serve a minimum probationary period of twelve (12) months.Current permanent status classified employees may be required to accept a probational appointment in lieu of promotion if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.
