Position Summary As the Mechanical Engineering Co‑op at Powerex, you will support the engineering group by working with mechanical engineers from diverse backgrounds to develop solutions to manufacturing issues and design new products. Engineers ranging from recent graduates to those with 30+ years of experience will support you as you develop CAD skills, problem‑solving ability, and insight into different types of engineering roles, gaining experience with the design process. The project‑based approach to this co‑op allows you to contribute to ongoing development projects and perform product line maintenance. As a co‑op onsite at Powerex you will work in an office, engineering lab, and assembly line/manufacturing environments. Assignments First Term Assignments: Supporting team members in setting up, instrumenting, documenting and maintaining functional product tests. Assisting team members in the creation and maintenance of engineering drawings. Working with quality systems with direction from the quality manager. Modifying existing designs with direction from senior engineers. Second Term Assignments: Design and implementation of small projects intended to improve the existing line of products. Various projects are available for assignment progressing in difficulty. Executing and implementing Engineering Change Notices. Process job packets necessary for production orders, including drawing layouts, bill of materials, test sheets, product manuals and preventative maintenance lists. Third Term Assignments: Participation on New Product Development projects, including concept ideation, design, prototyping and testing, along with production implementation. Design and implementation of more complex sustaining projects intended to improve the existing line of products, with significant product enhancements and quality improvements requiring a higher level of difficulty for successful completion. Qualifications Minimum of 1‑year engineering‑focused higher education completed at the start of the co‑op. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work independently and in teams. Mechanical aptitude. Experience with basic laboratory electronic equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, multimeters, etc.) preferred. CAD experience preferred.
