DESCRIPTION Kick It California (KIC), formerly the California Smokers' Helpline, is part of the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. KIC conducts research as well as provides free cessation related counseling service. KIC was the first statewide telephone‑counseling service for smoking cessation in the U.S. that was based on experimentally‑proven protocol (established in 1992). Cessation service is now provided using telephone and internet‑based protocols. The phone counseling service is provided in six languages—English, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Korean, and Vietnamese. KIC conducts high‑caliber intervention research as well as population studies. KIC is funded to conduct large and ongoing surveys in California: the survey to evaluate California's TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) program and a survey project related to cannabis for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Substance Abuse and Prevention Branch (SAPB). KIC currently has grants and contract in excess of $10 million annually. Under direction of the Director of Research, the Survey Research Supervisor II will plan, coordinate and monitor research study implementation and data collection for a large state‑wide study. Will establish and implement systems and procedures for operational management of the research project team. The Survey Research Supervisor II will foster partnerships with local and/or state agencies to achieve goals and will work with the PI to develop short and long term plans. In collaboration with the Director will formulate overall research study planning, design and question development; coordinate study planning and design with the survey research team; monitor and improve response rates; assign staff to interact and coordinate with school site officials; provide oversight of qualitative data collection; prepare reports and deliverables; and conduct literature reviews. Areas of research study may include one or more of the following: Tobacco‑Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program evaluation County‑Specific California Student Tobacco Survey (CSTS)/data management A statewide cannabis survey for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Substance Abuse and Prevention Branch (SAPB) These research studies are funded by multi‑year contracts with State and individual counties. Additionally, the Survey Research Supervisor II will serve as the lead for the TUPE statewide program evaluation project and TUPE GEMS grant management system which is funded by the California Department of Education, and a marijuana and substance use survey for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Substance Abuse and Prevention Branch (SAPB). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Nine years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five years of related experience/training. Solid knowledge of data collection activities, research studies, data collection procedures and protocols. Solid knowledge associated with monitoring staffing levels, recruitment and training procedures. Experience and training in the facilitation of surveys. Solid knowledge and skills relating to the development of survey instrumentation. Solid knowledge of budget planning process. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Excel and Access database skills for monitoring shared reporting. Experience using programmed databases. Ability to learn new software applications quickly. Experience using qualitative and/or statistical software applications. Demonstrated skill in critical thinking. Ability to independently assess the needs of the department and develop appropriate strategies to meet them. Ability to oversee implementation of strategies, evaluate their effectiveness, and revise as needed. Demonstrated ability to facilitate staff meetings, and to provide effective training on office and research protocols and client service issues. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a research team, taking direction from study directors. Demonstrated experience with report preparation and presentation. Demonstrated experience in conducting literature reviews utilizing multiple sources of media. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated experience working in a research setting using protocols involving human subjects including knowledge of UCSD HRPP policies and procedures. Solid knowledge and experience in research regarding tobacco use and prevention. Statistical ability and experience with software such as R and Tableau. Demonstrated experience in research involving human subjects. Training/knowledge of research methodology (e.g., how to maintain reliability and consistency across interviewers, language, and time). Solid knowledge of principles of survey research. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Employment is subject to a criminal background check. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
