OverviewRT - Respiratory Care Practitioner - Level I - (250002U2). Children\'s National Hospital is seeking dedicated Respiratory Care Practitioners to join our team at our 323-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. Our Respiratory Department offers opportunities for growth through our career ladder program, with units including the Heart and Kidney Unit, Short Stay Unit, Medical Surgical Units, Level IV NICU, PICU, Cardiac ICU, Emergency Department, and critical care transport via ambulance and helicopter among others.Under general direction of the department manager, the Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for administering all levels of Respiratory Care to treat patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction and/or disabilities. The RCP-II will operate at the level usual and customary for Acute Care, ER, and Critical Care (PICU or NICU) competency and orientation, maintaining skills and knowledge to provide safe, effective, and appropriate care to all ages including neonates, infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include administering respiratory therapies and procedures as part of standard patient care, and ensuring safe and effective treatment across acute care and ER settings. The role requires independent work within the ER and all acute care areas and adherence to policies and procedures established by Respiratory Care Services and Children\'s National Health System.QualificationsQualifications - ExternalCompletion of a minimum two years of college training in an AMA approved Respiratory Care Program - Associates Degree (Required)1 year Work experience in Respiratory Care (Preferred)New graduates accepted in positionRequired Skills/KnowledgeMust be able to demonstrate competency of all aspects of acute care delivery and ER prior to completion of initial 90 daysAdministers all general Respiratory Therapy procedures, including humidity and aerosol therapy, lung inflation maneuvers, pulmonary secretion clearance, CPAP, BiPAP, and High-Flow Therapy.Must demonstrate basic mechanical ventilator management skills including set-up, monitoring, and troubleshooting.Performs CPR as indicated.
