Senior Manager/Senior Counsel - Card LitigationCapital One Legal is seeking a motivated litigation attorney to join the Credit Card Litigation Team. Capital One’s Litigation team is a dynamic group of legal professionals who manage the Litigation and Government Investigation needs of the company. Specifically, the Credit Card Litigation Team manages all of the defensive litigation matters and government investigations involving Capital One’s credit card line of business. The Credit Card Litigation Team also reports and advises on litigation and regulatory risks facing the company. The card litigation portfolio is a high volume, fast paced, nationwide portfolio involving a wide range of cases from complex, high exposure class actions to pre-litigation complaints. The successful candidate will report to the head of Credit Card Litigation, manage a portfolio of cases independently, and serve as a people leader to paralegals.Job Responsibilities:Manage a nationwide portfolio of diverse litigation matters, pre-litigation demands, and government investigationsCreate litigation reports for business partners to summarize litigation risk facing the credit card line of businessAdvise business, compliance, and risk partners on litigation and regulatory risksHire and oversee outside litigation counselCollaborate with attorneys across the legal department to provide excellent legal advice to clients while mitigating litigation and regulatory riskBuild relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders across the enterpriseUnderstand business strategies and align litigation outcomes to support those strategiesEnsure deadlines are metBasic Qualifications:Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.Active member in good standing of at least one state bar.At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, government agencyPreferred Qualifications:5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department and/or government agency. Previous experience in the financial services industry, and specifically the credit card business, is a plus but not required. Applicants without financial services experience who otherwise meet the criteria are encouraged to apply.Federal court or state appellate court clerkshipAbility to efficiently and effectively manage a high volume, fast-paced portfolio including class actions, government investigations, federal and state cases, small claims matters, and pre-litigation demandsFlexibility, resilience, and openness to changeAbility and desire to learn new areas of lawAbility and willingness to work as a team player in a collaborative mannerExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent judgment and creative problem solving skillsWillingness to go above and beyond to support the broader Litigation team as necessaryStrong analytical and organizational skillsExperience presenting to senior leadership and driving them to actionAt this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.This role is hybrid meaning associates typically spend about half their time (2-3 days per week) in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting. Fridays are enterprise-wide virtual work days. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are in-person days for associates to spend time together working in our beautifully-designed team areas.The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.McLean, VA: $193,000 - $220,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. CounselRichmond, VA: $175,500 - $200,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. CounselCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
