The Sheet Metal Experimental Mechanic Apprentice will learn how to perform layout, fabrication, and assembly of diversified types of assigned parts, subassemblies, assemblies, engines and brazing fixturesAt the end of successfully completing the Sheet Metal Experimental Mechanic apprenticeship program, the employee will be promoted to a Sheet Metal Experimental Mechanic. Work with Sheet Metal Experimental Mechanic's to learn how to make layouts necessary to establish locations of parts, trim lines bosses, hole and flange patterns, where dimensions and fittings are exacting, requiring the use of mathematics to calculate dimensions. Be instructed on how to perform tasks such as checking weld in process by making a sample sketch, cutting and polishing sample, as required. Spend a certain number of hours learning how to recommend sequence of operations and recommend layout, fabricate, assemble, repair, rework, and alter all types of fixtures and fixture subassemblies, with or without adequate tooling and complete fabrication information, working from company specifications, blueprints, sketches, and written and oral instructions and in accordance with shop practice. Understand how to set up and operate all types of resistance welding equipment to perform any operation within the capacity of the machine. Learn the fabrication of sheet metal components for Developmental Combustors, Injectors, and Test Rigs. Perform housekeeping duties and maintain a safe and clean working environment. Apprentices are required to complete a training program of four years (8,000 hours) of on-the-job training with qualified Journeymen. Must attend related training classes for at least five hours per week until completion of the required courses. These courses provide supplemental knowledge related to the offered trades and is unpaid time. At the end of their Apprenticeship, apprentices are expected to perform the role of a Sheet Metal Experimental Mechanic. Minimum Qualifications All candidates must be at least 18 years old and eligible to enroll as a student with San Diego City College. Additionally, candidates must have one of the following: Diploma through G.E.D. issued by a high school Certificate of High School Equivalency issued by a State Board of Education Certification of High School Proficiency issued by a State Board of Education Completion of 15 units of college courses from an accredited college with grades of "C" or better This employer is not currently hiring foreign national applicants that require or will require sponsorship tied to a specific employer, such as H, L, TN, F, J, E, O.Summary Pay Range:$25.00 - $42.12Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
