Fundraising Program Director

Position Overview The Fundraising Program Director is a new position on the Montana Nonprofit Association (MNA) team, funded by a three-year grant. This position will lead a new program dedicated to building fundraising capacity for nonprofits in Montana. They will not be responsible for internal fundraising at MNA. This grant‑funded position will develop and lead a cohort program to provide direct fundraising and capacity‑building support to nonprofit cohort participants each year, while also building tools, resources, and curricula for a wider audience of nonprofit leaders. This position requires a unique skill set of understanding and translating leading practices in fundraising to leaders of small and medium‑sized organizations. The Fundraising Hub Director will both oversee programming and provide direct fundraising services to nonprofit organizations. They will work in partnership with MNA staff to develop, deliver, and evaluate fundraising programming and services. This position is a unique opportunity to both create and direct a new statewide program within MNA and apply fundraising experience and expertise to assist under‑resourced organizations across Montana. This position is a full‑time exempt position with a salary between $65,000 and $75,000. Work can be completed flexibly, including from home or the Helena office, with attendance periodically required at events and in the office. Some projects can be completed on a flexible, nontraditional time frame while others require being present during office or event hours. In‑office presence is expected at least monthly, with additional travel to other locations up to 5 times per year. This position is funded for three years. Core Competencies Successful candidates will have the following competencies and experiences: Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising fundamentals, planning, methods, and best practices for small to medium, rural, or capacity‑constrained organizations Demonstrated experience in soliciting gifts, including soliciting mid or major‑level donors 5+ years' experience and/or credentials in fundraising Experience teaching, training, public speaking, and/or coaching and mentoring Timely and detail‑oriented approach to work Excellent written and verbal communication skills Commitment and joy in building capacity for other organizations through direct work, advising, coaching, and reviewing Primary Functions & Responsibilities: Program Development: Design, implement, evaluate, and oversee MNA’s Fundraising Hub, including broad fundraising resource development and a cohort model for selected organizations. Develop, refine, implement, and evaluate a cohort model that builds fundraising capacity for the nonprofit sector in Montana for a small number of organizations Develop, refine, and evaluate general fundraising programming that complements existing MNA delivery models, including blogs, monthly calls, paid workshops, conference sessions, toolkits, and in‑depth workshops Research and identify opportunities for local communities to encourage relationship development with new and part‑time Montana residents Assist in researching and developing resources in the areas of impact evaluation and data‑centric storytelling. Curriculum Development and Training: Provide subject matter expertise as a fundraiser to co‑develop and deliver curriculum on leading practices in fundraising to cohort participants and a broad audience of nonprofit staff and leaders in Montana. Identify key areas in fundraising for training content Co‑develop curricula and resources for nonprofit organizations alongside MNA team Train MNA staff in curriculum delivery in target areas Deliver training to members and non‑members virtually, in‑person, and asynchronously Consulting Work and Technical Assistance for MNA Members: Build fundraising capacity for Montana nonprofits through direct support and assistance on projects as part of the cohort program, including but not limited to: Developing, reviewing, or evaluating fundraising plans, gift policies, appeal methods, and strategy Refining or developing fundraising narratives including impact metrics Advising management of CRM data or donor profiles Coaching or training staff and board on aspects of fundraising plan or implementation including writing narratives, identifying and stewarding donors, or making asks Other tactical support or training as needed by members Compensation Information The MNA team typically works a 32‑hr work week, with Fridays off. There are months in the year, including September, where we move up to a 40‑hour week. 32 Hrs/Week with flexibility Remote work accepted with in‑office engagements at least 12 times per year Travel up to 5 times/year for MNA events.
