Irwin Community Center GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Birthday Party Host is responsible for hosting and overseeing birthday parties. Major duties include, but at not limited to, setting up and cleaning, leading party activities, customer service functions, and serving pre-packaged food. The H-F Park District's mission statement is "to enhance the quality of life through diverse recreational opportunities, facilities and parks while caring for the environment".

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our internal and external guests by providing friendly, responsive, courteous and helpful service.
  • Follow birthday party procedures as outlined in the manual.
  • Set up and decorate room for birthday party
  • Greet and meet the hosts and guests in attendance for the party
  • Implement and lead activities and games
  • Serve pre-packaged food.
  • Clean up after the party and return supplies to storage areas in a neat and organized manner.
  • Arrive to parties promptly and prepared for scheduled hours.
  • Communicate effectively with patrons and staff regarding safety concerns, and with Recreation Supervisor regarding equipment and supply needs.
  • Demonstrate and support park district customer service standards.
  • Wear Homewood-Flossmoor Park District uniform when on duty.
  • Display the utmost professional conduct and excellent customer service skills at all times.
  • Assist patrons with concerns, questions and needs.
  • Complete before and after birthday party check list sheet at beginning and the end of shift.
  • Maintain supply list needed for parties.
  • Must have reliable cell phone for emergency use only.
  • Attend training sessions as necessary.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the part time staff manual.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.
COGNITIVE SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Ability to make decisions in best interest of safety considerations.
  • Ability to maintain order in a diplomatic manner.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED:
  • Must be able to supervise children at play in an orderly and calm manner.
  • Knowledge of age appropriate activities and games
  • Must have tact and diplomacy in dealing with people.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be enthusiastic, outgoing, creative, engaged, detail oriented, and positive.
  • Must be able to adapt and work with a variety of people and situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize party activities; use time efficiently
  • Able to maintain composure in periods of high activity and difficult situations including the capacity to proactively handle conflicts, resolve problems and work well under pressure.
  • Proficient customer service, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Exhibit a keen awareness of surroundings.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
  • Must be 16 years or older.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certified or able to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Experience with children and supervision preferred.
