The Hyperbaric Technician shall assume responsibility for the safety and efficient treatment of patients. The technician should work towards and maintain a Hyperbaric Technician Certification. Hyperbaric training should be obtained at ATMO in San Antonio or a National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) approved hyperbaric medicine introductory training course. The Hyperbaric Tech covers the following additional duties as a Hyperbaric Safety Coordinator:

Oversees the safety and regulatory requirements of the hyperbaric program in collaboration with the Nursing Director.
Completes an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen Safety course and should learn how to perform a Transcutaneous Oximetry test in the unit.
Understands all safety aspects of the chamber.
Maintains all Hyperbaric safety precautions with all patients, and he/she should ensure that each patient is thoroughly evaluated before entering the chamber.
Responsible for conducting quarterly safety drills in the Hyperbaric unit, attending hospital safety committee meetings, and maintaining departmental compliance with the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).
Enters daily data entries for hyperbaric treatments and completes regulatory logs at required intervals.

EXPERIENCE:

Successful completion of an approved NBDHMT HBOT course. Pre or post hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course. Pre-hire course completion must be within the past 5 years.
One year experience as a Respiratory Therapist, EMT/Paramedic, Registered Nurse, or LPN

OTHER: Medical Terminology, basic computer skills, and prior supervisory experience preferred.

LICENSE/CERT: Required: CHT (Certified Hyperbaric Technologist)

EDUCATION: Required: Technical/Certificate - Related Field
