Associate Director - Software Development - ITS Position Summary The Associate Director is responsible for managing assigned staff, and the planning, implementation, coordination, and operations of all software development issues. Job requires a high degree of interaction with General Conference users of Personal Computers. Compensation Full-time exempt position with benefits Remuneration Range: 92-108% ($87K - $103K annually) Benefits Salary employees receive comprehensive benefits packages, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement savings plans, etc. Supervisor Adrian Schmidt Essential Job Functions Works with supervisor to determine software development areas for improvement and strengthening, including software and system selection and configuration, ECM/ BPM, Document Management and documentation to support all standards, processes, systems and applications. Designs and structures teams, policies and guidelines, and processes to reflect the goals of the GC organization as outlined by supervisor. Responsible for proposing development policies and guidelines in coordination with other supervisor groups as they relate to security, communication, development standards and other areas as determined by the supervisor. Responsible for directing the selection, organization and planning of projects and determining the level of resources and timelines needed for each with ITS Development managers and teams. Reviews and recommends means for improving the software selection process to the supervisor. Works directly with GC officers and department administrators to review and suggest solutions geared toward improving processes, defining procedures, solving problems and more effective use of staff. Coordinates with Enterprise Architect regarding Global Software initiatives and issues resolution. Works with supervisor to develop, plan and assign resources to complete paperless initiative. Works with other global development church entities to develop and strengthen relationships, policies, standards, practices and other areas of software development as requested. Reviews policy and procedures for activities in department groups and recommends changes. Assists with development of annual department budget and financial statements. Organizes, manages project budgets, schedules and manager to meet objectives and timelines. Manages staff and engages when necessary to ensure department works closely with other ITS staff, in-house employees, consultants, vendors or engineers. Leads out in assigned meetings and gives reports to appropriate committees. Evaluates products and services and presents to the Leadership Committee for approval. Reviews workloads, schedules, itineraries, and status of ongoing projects in order to plan activities. Ensures technology use is conducted in a way that meets industry best practice regarding security. Develops, motivates, and evaluates assigned staff and ensures staff productivity and morale remain high. Responsible for resolving conflicts that arise among staff members in ITS development. Ensures that department operates within assigned annual operating department budget. Serves on boards and committees as assigned. Must be a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Must maintain a regular and reliable work schedule. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Education And Experience Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in Computers, Mathematics, Engineering or related field required. Masters degree preferred. Candidate must have high technical skills in computers. Five or more years of experience in senior level computer responsibilities, including supervisory experience, are required in order to demonstrate level of expertise necessary to perform the job requirements. Knowledge Skills And Abilities Extensive knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the General Conference and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Knowledge of church structure and organization, including committee procedures, etc. Must have a good working knowledge of employer’s computer environment. Requires good organizational skills in evaluating process and making changes to meet the changing needs of users of services provided. Strong people skills in providing advocacy for functions performed and to maintain high levels of communications with subordinates, users, and superiors. Ability to assist employees in a professional manner in analyzing and solving a variety of computer related issues. Must be user friendly, courteous, have good communication skills, and be self-motivated with ability to complete tasks with little supervision. Ability to perform administrative functions; develop long and short-term plans and programs to effectively evaluate work accomplishments; establish and maintain effective relationships with internal/external personnel. Must possess advanced ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in English in oral and written form. Must have well-developed understanding of computing field to analyze the situation, research new technology tools and other support related issues and ability to make appropriate recommendations.
