Job Overview Infection Preventionist role at St. John's Health. Job Description Summary The Infection Preventionist leads the organization’s efforts to prevent healthcare‑associated infections (HAIs). Responsibilities include dissemination of evidence‑based information, development and review of policies and procedures, staff education, monitoring compliance, oversight of CMS/DNV requirements, surveillance of infectious diseases, reporting on federally mandated measures, communicating performance to leadership, and facilitating corrective actions. The role also ensures compliance with applicable state and local standards. Essential Functions Oversight of Infection Prevention Program Coordinate annual infection control risk assessments for all service lines. Develop infection prevention goals aligned with risk assessments and organizational strategy. Revise policies, procedures, and guidelines to reduce HAIs. Support implementation and change management for policy updates. Ensure ongoing compliance with CMS/DNV requirements across all facilities. Conduct audits of infection prevention best practice implementation. Communicate findings to committees and staff. Surveillance Monitoring, Data Collection and Reporting Conduct surveillance and investigations for nosocomial infections. Submit required and selected optional data to NHSN/CDC. Maintain organized records of infection prevention data and HAI logs. Provide regular reports, including statistical analysis and benchmarks. Report emerging trends or concerns to the Quality Director. Conduct outbreak investigations and determine outbreak status. Organization Point of Contact for Infection Prevention Advise staff on management of infectious patients/residents. Collaborate with clinical and non‑clinical staff to improve practices. Recommend construction and renovation projects and participate in ICRA activities. Cooperate with county and state health departments on reporting. Provide guidance during infectious disease outbreaks. Education and Spread of Knowledge Provide in‑services and disseminate infection prevention information. Serve as a resource for staff regarding isolation techniques. Offer ad‑hoc education to address gaps. Develop an education strategy supporting evidence‑based practices. Performance Improvement Apply process improvement methodology. Select appropriate tools to support efficiency and sustainability. Consider patient and stakeholder needs in process development. Monitor and analyze outcome measures to evaluate effectiveness. Participate in PI committees and initiatives. Employee Health Coordinate with Employee Health to develop relevant policies. Reduce occupational exposure risks to infectious diseases. Support immunization and screening programs. Respond to occupational exposures in partnership with Employee Health. Job Requirements Minimum Education • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or master’s in public health, certified medical laboratory science, or bachelor’s in a related medical field with CIC certification. Minimum Work Experience • Working knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, aseptic techniques, basic computer, research, statistical skills, and interpersonal communication. • Preferred 3+ years of Infection Prevention experience. Required Licenses Current RN license authorized in Wyoming OR Infection Prevention certification. RNs without CIC certification must obtain it within 2 years of hire. Functional Demands Working Conditions Hospital and long‑term care settings; small office; stressful situations; exposure to infectious agents. Must be on‑site at SJH campus or other facilities. Physical Requirements 50% sitting, intermittent standing and walking; 50% computer use. Ability to bend, stoop, reach. Direct Reports None Reports to Director Quality RN Internal and External Contacts All hospital personnel, medical staff, patients, community, CDC, State Health Department, and Wyoming Infection Control.
