As a Data Scientist within Starbucks’ Data & Analytics (D&A) organization, you will be part of the centralized data science and engineering team that drives strategic decision-making and ML/AI capabilities across the business. The D&A organization spans four key pillars: Customer, Retail Operations, Supply Chain, and Enterprise. Each domain is focused on solving unique and complex challenges through data science. Whether personalizing marketing campaigns, optimizing store operations, improving inventory flow, or unlocking enterprise-wide initiatives, our data scientists apply advanced analytics, experimentation, and modeling to elevate the Starbucks experience. Responsibilities Lead the design and development of scalable data science solutions from start to finish by utilizing machine learning and statistical analysis. Build scalable processes for cleaning, aggregating, and loading data. Translate business initiatives, challenges, questions, concerns, or ideas into successful data science solutions, and monitor data science metrics and KPIs. Mentor data analysts & data scientists on best practices, processes, frameworks, and KPIs. Contribute to project planning, assist the team with estimations, timelines, and prioritization. Assist in developing the analytical roadmap, data, and technology strategy. Qualifications Education: BS+ with a concentration in a quantitative discipline—Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, Econ, Quantitative Social Science or similar. Master’s preferred. Minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in data and analytics work. Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to influence leadership teams at different levels. Significant experience working with predictive and statistical modeling, machine learning, and full modeling pipeline. Strong SQL, database and ETL/ELT skills. Advanced competency in Python, R, or both. Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Spark and Databricks, and languages such as Java, PySpark, or Scala. Strong collaboration instincts—desire and ability to work with partners to achieve the best outcome for the business. Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills. Proven ability to manage multiple, time‑sensitive projects and competing priorities simultaneously with high attention to detail. Preferred Skills Familiarity with Customer Identity Resolution. Experience with Brand Monitoring. Experience building forecasting models for time series or operational planning. Background in optimization techniques such as linear programming, mixed‑integer programming, or heuristic algorithms for decision support. Deep understanding of machine learning and statistical techniques, such as regression, classification, decision trees, clustering, and causal inference, with practical experience applying them to real‑world problems.
