DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW Risk and Safety Services is comprised of five departments and each of these units is dedicated to maintaining and promoting an aspect of the health and safety of all members of the campus community. Risk and Safety Services provides leadership and coordinates multidisciplinary services to sustain a safe and healthy campus by managing risk, preventing injury and loss, and coordinating access, emergency response, and recovery. Risk Services is a department within Risk and Safety Services, which supports the campus by assisting departments identify their risk exposures, recommending strategies to reduce or eliminate identified risks, and administering the campus insurance programs to facilitate maximum recovery from accidental losses. More information can be found at: https://riskservices.ucsc.edu/ JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Workers' Compensation and Occupational Disability Manager, the Workers' Compensation Analyst is a member of the UCSC Office of Risk Services. The Workers' Compensation Analyst is responsible for providing support in implementing preventative measures and injury prevention programs for the campus workers' compensation program. The Workers' Compensation Analyst coordinates assigned segments of the University's workers' compensation program. Uses skills as an experienced professional with a full understanding of industry best practices in identifying methods and techniques for optimal risk mitigation solutions. APPOINTMENT INFORMATION Budgeted Salary: $85,400/annually Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. Analyzes complex loss areas, and compiles initial workers' compensation claims data; identifies and collects missing information; inputs essential data within reporting deadlines; prepares and sends initial notification; and establishes and maintains confidential claim files. Assists with implementing risk control programs and strategies to prevent losses and reduce insurance premiums. Updates emergency medical providers with workers' compensation billing data and contact information. Provides support for the administration of claimant DWC 1 and workers' compensation medical prescription card program. Liaises with medical providers to obtain timely and work status reports. Assists with analyzing complex loss claims data and metrics reports. 50% - Workers' Compensation Program Development Assists in implementing preventative measures. Assists in developing injury prevention safety training to aid in injury reduction. Provides support in developing programming by targeting areas of frequent injury types. Conduct thorough assessments to identify high-risk areas and activities within the university. Develop and implement targeted strategies to prevent injuries, including ergonomic adjustments, hazard identification, and safety protocols. Design and deliver ongoing training programs to educate staff and faculty on best practices for avoiding physical movement injuries. Work closely with departments identified as high-risk to tailor safety initiatives that address specific needs and challenges. Regularly review the effectiveness of implemented measures and training programs, using data-driven approaches to make necessary adjustments. Provide detailed reports on progress, including reductions in injury claims and cost savings, to demonstrate the impact of the initiatives. Develop customer satisfaction surveys for training programs to evaluate program success. Provide risk analysis support to Risk Services department programs. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Proven interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, professionalism. Proven organizational skills and excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of workers' compensation claims management; Workers' Compensation experience with either a third party claims administrator, a Workers' Compensation insurer or a large employer. Proven ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems. Ability to maintain highly confidential information in an appropriate manner; and maintain high ethical standards. Demonstrated knowledge of occupational disability management; knowledge of developing and coordinating occupational injury return to work assignments. Computer skills characterized by: knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and the ability to learn and utilize a claims management information system. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Certified Professional in Disability Management (CPDM) professional designation Completion of Insurance Educational Association course WCCA 10, Foundations of California Workers' Compensation Claims, or equivalent Workers' Compensation course. Ability to communicate in the Spanish language Strong skills required to develop course materials and deliver content effectively to diverse populations. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. The selected candidate will be required to work all scheduled hours on-site. Ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
