Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:6 both days and nights, sometimes 1:7. Need to be comfortable with these ratios.

Colorectal surgery, GI, G Tube, Peg tubes, NG, a lot of surgical, general surgical, general med/surg patients, pancreatitis, pneumonia, no covid on this floor.
Experience or 'Must have' skills general med/surg
*Are RNs required to titrate drips?* **no
Common titratable &/or set rate drips heparin, might start nitro
*Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?*
On site, have a monitor tech on another floor
*Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?*

Charge nurse (do take patients) and house sup 24/7
*Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios*
Yes 2-3 per shift and a unit secretary, ratio vary - see CNA notes
*RT Equipment* (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) Cpap, o2
*Shifts & Scheduling *(Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?)
3-12 hour shifts. Start at 6:45. Try to accommodate block schedule, but not guaranteed, no self scheduling
*Weekend Requirement* **Every other weekend.
*Holiday Requirement* Will rotate with core staff
*Is there Call or a Standby requirement?* **no
*Floating Requirements?* Any other gen med floor, including covid,
*Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided?* Any color or pattern
*Unit/Department specific orientation* 2 days classroom, 2- 12 hour shfits on unit
*Additional Notes* We need to make sure all Nurses coning to SMH are aware they will be working with LPN’s. We have several on our med-surg units and do a team nursing approach.
