Job Description


The Automated Chemistry Equipment unit is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a world-class team providing direct fleet support for integrated and automated online fluid analysis systems and developing new systems, technology, and methods to revolutionize fleet chemistry analysis. As a Mechanical Engineer in the Automated Chemistry Equipment unit, you will play a vital role in designing fluid systems and developing hardware to maintain effective chemistry analysis in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.




Your specific tasks will include direct fleet support and field work, mechanical design and fabrication, fluid system design and testing -including specification of valves, instrumentation and other components, and integration of equipment into fleet applications, and support work for deployed systems. You will collaborate with an enthusiastic team, including shipyard field engineers, fleet chemistry experts, laboratory operations personnel, and software and cybersecurity experts to deliver innovative solutions to the challenges associated with the modernization of fleet chemistry analysis.



This challenging and rewarding position offers opportunities to develop and expand technical skills through complex assignments, interpersonal skills through numerous interfaces, and leadership skills through various team assignments.





Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill


Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.

• Understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and materials
• Understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, casting, etc.)
• Ability to clearly define requirements in written technical/mechanical specifications
• Chemistry and analytical instrumentation/equipment
• Electrical Engineering
• Software/Computer Engineering (LabVIEW experience a plus)
• Familiarity with shock and vibration analysis/requirements (especially MIL-STD-901D and MIL-STD-167)

Pay Range


$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
