Job Description The Snohomish County District Court anticipates an opening for a judicial position on the court’s Everett District bench to fill the position until the general election in November 2026. Candidates must be available for an interview with the County Council on the afternoon of Monday, December 15, 2025, and will be notified of their interview time on or before December 11, 2025. Basic Function Judges are authorized to hear cases of all actions for which jurisdiction is conferred in RCW chapters 3.30 through 3.74, RCW 7.105, or otherwise assigned by law. Case types include criminal misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, traffic and non‑traffic infractions, parking infractions, civil protection orders, name changes, vehicle impounds, civil complaints, and small claims. Minimum Qualifications Be a registered voter of the district court district and electoral district, if any. Be either: A lawyer admitted to practice law in the state of Washington; or In districts with a population less than five thousand, a person who has taken and passed the qualifying examination for a lay candidate for judicial officer by January 1, 2003, as provided by the Supreme Court rule. Each judge must take an oath supporting the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution and laws of Washington, and perform duties faithfully and impartially. Judges hold office for four years from the second Monday in January following their selection, and in case of vacancy, the appointment lasts until the next general election.
