Reports To: Director of Internal Affairs

FLSA: Exempt / Non-Bargaining

Facility: George W. Hill

Salary: $60,000 Annually

Summary

Responsible for conducting internal investigations as directed by the Deputy Warden, Warden, or designee. Additionally, responds and processes crime scenes, prepares investigative reports, investigates assaults, and uses of force within the institution, and provides assistance in management of STG (Security Threat Groups). Collaborates with a multitude of criminal justice agencies and law enforcement. Maintains confidentiality

Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only):

Conducts and supervises internal investigations and official inquiries, into cases of staff and/or incarcerated person misconduct as assigned by the Deputy Warden and Warden.

Conductions interviews of alleged victims, witnesses, and suspects as it pertains to internal investigations and/or official inquiries.

Prepares and submits comprehensive investigative documents and associated reports to support investigative findings.

May recommendation appropriate action if necessary.

Review facility cameras to ensure all cameras are operable at all times.

Upload and create an electronic video file for all Use of Force (UOF) incidents and make recommendations to prison staff.

Assist with reviewing all Critical Incident Reports (CIR) daily for accuracy and all necessary information for each incident.

Acts as the facility's official liaison with Delaware County Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and other law enforcement agencies.

Testify at court hearings on behalf of the facility when necessary.

Assists with training of all new correctional employees regarding investigative matters and report writing.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Warden.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

High School Diploma or GED; College degree highly desirable.

Three (3) years of experience in a correctional or law enforcement role (A combination of education and work experience may be taken into consideration based on management's discretion.)

Knowledge of basic investigative procedures and practices.

Knowledge of applicable agency policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Skilled in conducting confidential investigations.

Must be able to complete PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Specialized Investigator Training within three months of assuming duties.

Must possess good problem-solving abilities and strong analytical abilities.

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Flexibility in work schedule and days off when necessary.

Ability to write reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups of employees.

Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Working Environment

Standard jail facility and office environment. Incumbent performs duties in a jail facility which may involves sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease.
