As a vital member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS), the Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient-centered care. In this position, you will practice professional nursing within the legal and ethical guidelines set forth by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, as well as the standards established by the American Nurses Association. Our mission is to ensure quality outcomes by fostering leadership, effective communication, and collaboration alongside patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Standards of Practice: The RN utilizes the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice as a guide for competent nursing care through the nursing process that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  2. Coordination of Care: Work collaboratively to coordinate care delivery and manage transitions of care while promoting health and a safe environment.
  3. Standards of Professional Performance: Engage in professional activities that demonstrate leadership, effective communication, ethical practice, and continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program; a BSN is preferred. Current BCLS certification is required within one month of hire.
  • Experience: All RNs are encouraged to participate in the SPIRE clinical advancement program.
  • Licensure: Must be a licensed and currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut; clinical specialty certification is highly encouraged.
  • Skills: All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.

Physical Demands: This role requires prolonged standing and walking, as well as the use of sight, hearing, and touch. You may be exposed to infectious diseases and will face physical, mental, and emotional challenges including end-of-life situations. This position entails moderate stress levels and potential injury risks related to patient care, requiring the ability to assist in the lifting and moving of patients weighing between five (5) and three hundred (300) pounds.
