About this Position

The Mechanical Inspector performs mechanical inspections on commercial and residential projects to ensure the appropriate installation of building components and fire protection systems. The inspector is also responsible for working with both residential and commercial contractors and tradespeople to ensure code compliance. This inspector job involves frequent contact with engineers, architects, owners, and others involved in the construction process. They will adhere to the standard schedule 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday, but a modified schedule for a 6-hour Friday is available.

Responsibilities
  • Complete construction inspections for every project
  • Keep records of all inspections completed with a record of deficiencies found
  • Contact tradespeople concerning questions about inspection results
  • Schedule inspections
  • Research codes concerning deficiencies found during inspections
  • Participate in the code update process
  • Participate in cross training program with other inspectors in the department
  • Meet with officials of other municipalities to provide consistency in code interpretation
  • Document licensing of workers on job site to ensure everyone is licensed by the state
  • Adhere to the Certification Program and complete the minimum three (3) certifications within two (2) years
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3 years of related experience and/or training (preferably in commercial and/or residential building construction)
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7 to 11 months of management experience
    • People and/or project management
  • Obtain, if applicable upon hire, a Provisional Inspector License from the Occupational Licensing Division of the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board to perform inspections in areas for which candidate is being hired
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

  • Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
  • Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screenings
