DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

Lewis 2 is a 22 bed Geri Psych/Behavioral Health Unit for patient population 55+. We provide a vibrant activities program along with special group sessions and programming to provide support. A special group room houses musical instruments, art supplies and other items to engage individual patient strengths and interests. Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Case Managers, Milieu Therapists and Nursing Assistants.   

Summary:
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for patients in accordance with established Nursing Standards of Care. The Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of nursing care and is directly reports to a designated nurse manager and/or clinical manager / off shift manager.Collaboration:
• Identifies own strengths, limitations, and values in functioning as a member
• Elicits others advice and perspectives including that of the patient and participates fully in interdisciplinary forums that promote an integrated approach to patient care, e.g. multidisciplinary rounds, team meetings
• Access appropriate resources to advocate for and optimize patient care considers the interests of all team members, making choices that best benefit patient family Advocacy and Moral Agency
• Understands the concepts of accountability for own nursing practice able to recognize basic ethical
• Recognizes tensions between professional autonomy and systems factors demonstrates professional comportment behaviors including attention to appearance demeanor, respect for self and others and attention to professional boundaries among patients, families, and caregivers
• Recognizes the need for using an ethical decision making framework for clinical situations and obtains assistance in solving ethical dilemmas as needed
