Head of Engineering We’re best known for our FoodHealth Score, a 1–100 rating system that measures the true health of food products. It functions like a FICO Score for food, used by grocery retailers and food brands across the country. We operate Monday-Thursday (remote Fridays) from our SOMA office. The Role We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to build the future, hands‑on. Someone who writes elegant, scalable code on Monday, shapes architecture on Tuesday, and recruits A+ engineers by Friday. This person will be the technical backbone and creative engine behind FoodHealth Co’s products. You’ll work directly with the CEO, CCO & CPO to design, build, and scale systems that make the FoodHealth Score ubiquitous across retailers, CPG brands, and millions of consumers. If you can turn a messy grocery dataset into something that changes how the world eats, this is your moment. What You'll Do Own our technical vision – work with our CPO to shape and execute the roadmap across consumer (FoodHealth AI) and enterprise (FoodHealth Intel/API) products. Build and lead – write code, ship fast, and grow a small, mighty engineering team (currently a team of 7). Architect for scale – design systems that handle billions of data points across products, ingredients, and users. Collaborate deeply – work side‑by‑side with product, design, and data science to turn ideas into working magic. Create leverage – use AI, automation, and scrappy innovation to do more with less. Think like an owner – move fast, sweat the details, and make great decisions with limited information. What We're Looking For 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 years leading teams or projects. Proven ability to ship products end‑to‑end — from architecture to launch. Experience with data‑heavy products is a must; retail experience is a huge plus. Startup DNA: thrive in ambiguity, bias toward action, and make things happen without a playbook.
