Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Car Computer

What to Expect Tesla is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer in the Autopilot and Electronics Product Design team to design various electronic modules for Tesla Car Computer group. The Engineer will lead the mechanical system design - enabling compute, connectivity, and similar features. What You'll Do Work closely with cross‑functional teams to define product requirements and develop implementations Participate in prototype builds, component fabrication, testing and validation efforts. Provide hands‑on support and perform data analysis Develop designs in CAD for both detailed parts and assemblies Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and other simulations and analyses before releasing designs for production Create 2D drawings appropriate for production and inspection methods Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up Optimize components while considering performance, design, integration, size, mass, assembly and more Modeling and design of mechanical components and assemblies including plastic, sheet metal, die cast etc. Support development of engineering and reliability test plans, test data analysis, and troubleshooting of design issues What You'll Bring Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience Minimum of 5 years of experience Proficiency in CAD (Catia preferred), tolerance analysis, quality control, data and statistical analysis, failure analysis, GD&T Proficiency of design of plastic injection moulded, sheet metal stamping and cast parts Proficiency in running experiments, DOEs and characterization studies Experience in MATLAB, Python, FEA (ANSYS preferred) Experience taking designs from initial concept through to mass production Ability to perform first-principles analysis to ensure a successful design (physics, stress‑strain, thermal, tolerance, cost and mass optimization, etc.) Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full‑time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back‑up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $106,400 - $256,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
