About the role:

The Operator Trainee position at the Pascagoula Refinery is a dynamic role where you will work with a team at an assigned processing, treating, and/or stock handling equipment to help refine crude oil to various products such as gasoline or jet fuel. In this role you will partner across most departments to efficiently refine 369,000 barrels per day to which are distributed across the Gulf Coast.

A successful trainee candidate will have responsibilities such as: 

  • Ownership for their personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Building a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures, as well as knowledge of the assigned processing unit and can relate it to others.
  • Spending frequent and extended time outdoors in all climates and in proper personal protective equipment.
  • Maintaining the unit’s maintenance, repairs, housekeeping, and emergency response requirements
  • Operation of process units utilizing a wide range of control systems and equipment that includes refrigeration units, mixers, heat exchangers, pumps, vacuum systems, filters, and atmospheric and pressurized storage tanks.
  • Operation of our utility systems that include power generation by gas fired turbines, boilers, air compressors, hot oil units, incinerator furnaces, firewater and cooling water systems, boiler feedwater treatment and effluent water treatment systems.
  • Ability to complete manual operation tasks that include connecting and disconnecting cargo hoses and load arms on railcars, tank trucks, ships, and barges as well as manual transfer of chemicals from bags and drums.
  • Operation of manual and automatic valves, meters, pumps, and transfer systems to handle product movement between tanks and process units.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including full-body coveralls, protective footwear, hard hats, hearing protection, eye protection, full-face respirators, and/or self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Work at heights up to 200ft with appropriate fall protection and work within confined spaces.

Successful candidates are expected to satisfy all the requirements associated with the Refinery's Formal Operator Training Program within 3 years of their hire date.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Candidates must have 2 years of any type of work experience. Military experience is work experience and Veterans are encouraged to apply.
  • Valid Driver's License. Driving within the facility on a routine basis is required.
  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift, overtime as required and on-call.
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven record in Safety and Reliability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an Oil and Gas, Energy, Petrochemical or Chemical facilities with roles like, but not limited to, Production Operator, Process Technician, Process Operator, Chemical Operator, Distillation Operator, Utility Operator, Process Control Operator, Control Room Operator, Emergency Response, Tank Field Operator, Terminal Operator
  • Associate's or Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program or related equivalent Central Gulf Industrial Alliance (CGIA) endorsed program such as Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC), Nunez Community College, Pearl River Community College, Coastal Alabama Community College, Bishop State Community College, or equivalent institutions.
