  • 24/7 in-house coverage for hospitalists, OB hospitalists, CRNAs, and tele-interpreters
  • On-Call 24/7: interventional radiology, anesthesiology, OB/GYN, psychiatry, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, hematology/oncology, GI, intensivists, pediatrics, neonatology, pulmonology
  • Limited 24/7 call coverage: vascular surgery, urology, ENT
  • Transfers out: inpatient pediatrics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, ophthalmology, dermatology
Emergency Department
  • ED Volume: 46,000
  • ED Beds: 42
  • Staffing Model:
    • 8-10 hour physician shifts
    • 8-12 hour APP shifts
  • EMR: Epic
  • 6-10% of the ED population is pediatrics
  • 15-22% admission rate (combined true hospital admits and observation admits)
  • USACS hospitalists admit 80% of the admitted patients in the hospital
  • Two Sonosite machines in ED
  • GlideScope with pediatric/adult blades and flexible fiberoptic scope attachment
  • Ultrasound-guided IVs and splints done by RNs and techs
Hospitalist Service
  • Average Daily Encounters: 126
  • Some procedures required
  • Open ICU
  • EMR: Epic
  • 7 days on/off block scheduling
  • The hospitalist team includes 6 full-time physicians, 6 full-time APPs, 2 full-time nocturnists
  • Three physicians, 3 APPs round at a time, overnight in-house nocturnist is responsible for admissions, codes, rapid responses, tele-nocturnist covers floor pages
